Goals for First Free Student Ministry
We exist to see teenagers in Sioux Falls become:
  1. Completely devoted to following Christ and seeing him glorified among the nations (Matt 22:37-40).
  2. Captivated by God’s perfect Word, clinging to it daily for wisdom, purity, delight, and the knowledge of God himself.
  3. Capable to share the gospel clearly so that upon our witness, those whom the Holy Spirit regenerates could respond in repentance and faith (Acts 20:24; Rom 10:14-15).
  4. Committed to daily prayer which is informed by God’s word and is our source of power (1 John 5:14-15).
  5. Connected to a Bible teaching local church when we are no longer under the care of this church (college and the rest of our lives).

Sunday School (for lack of a better term)
We meet every Sunday morning downstairs in the youth room from 9:20-10:30. We do worship music, a time of prayer, question and answer, and then Rick teaches a lesson. Rick tries to encourage active learning by asking questions and allowing discussion. Our lessons are on a twelve-week worldview study.

Wednesday Night
Every Wednesday night from 6:30 – 8:00, we have our mid-week gathering. We usually play dodge ball or another game, have a time of worship music led by Rick and students, and then Rick teaches a brief lesson from Genesis designed to lead into small group discussion groups. Led by adult leaders, these small groups are divided up by age and gender, and take the lesson to a deeper level, allowing the groups to process what they’ve learned by discussing how scripture relates to their everyday experience. They also allow time for accountability and prayer.

Koinonia
This is the New Testament Greek word for fellowship. Every other Sunday night from 7:30-8:30, we gather in a student’s home for snacks, various activities or games, music, prayer, and a brief student-led devotion.

Prayer Meeting
On the Sunday nights we don’t do koinonia, we have our prayer meeting from 7:15-8:30. A small group of us have been praying for each other and the whole youth group all school year long. We pray through every aspect of our ministry at each meeting, trusting God to do amazing things in and through us. We focus our prayers on our group worship times, the D-groups, and being on mission with God wherever he has placed us.

Conferences and Mission Trips
Each year our district provides a winter weekend conference for middle and high school students: Winter Blast and Impact. Every other year (coming in 2008 in Salt Lake City) the national student ministries team of the Evangelical Free Church of America hosts the Challenge Conference, a week-long gathering for all students in 7-12th grades. Additionally, we take summer mission trips to places like Mexico, New Orleans, and the Twin Cities so far.
